Saved by the ensemble!
A story of the ensemble helping a principal performer get back on track. Marjorie writes:
This occurred over 20 years ago, but it is a story worth repeating.
I was doing a musical based on the writings of Studs Terkel. It is called "Working". My role required me to sing the number which closed the first act, downstage-center. Behind me was the ensemble. Mid-way through the first verse, my mind went totally blank..............as I was vamping over to the conductor (musicians were onstage with us), the ensemble started to keep the rhythm with their fingers snapping and hands clapping.
I got back on track, singing back into position, at which point the ensemble stopped and we all finished Act I.
THEY saved that show!!!
